Greetings Brethren:
2012 promises to be an active and productive Masonic year for American Union #1. On December 19, 2011 our officers for 2012 were installed:
| Worshipful Master | Bradley Mason |
| Senior Warden | Nelson Logan |
| Junior Warden | William Ollom |
| Treasurer | James Malcolm, PM |
| Secretary | Charles Wentz |
| Senior Deacon | Peter Gammon |
| Junior Deacon | Benjamin Anderson |
| Tyler | Douglas Christopher |
| Chaplain | Donald Tice, PDDGM |
| Senior Steward | James (Chip) Wilson |
| Junior Steward | Donald Ross |
| Lodge Education Officer | William Reynolds, PM |
| Trustee | Richard Huddleston, II, PM |
I am honored with the opportunity to serve this year as Master. I am even more excited because of the great line of officers I will have the pleasure of working with. We met in December to plan our year and I am overwhelmed by the commitment and dedication displayed by this group of officers. Our goal is to have meetings and activities that will encourage more of the membership to attend and get involved. Please look over upcoming events outlined in this newsletter and pick one or two that you would like to attend. Make it a point to attend a stated meeting (Third Monday of each Month at 7PM), reconnect with your Brethren and your Fraternity. Help us to make 2012 a great year for Masonry in Marietta!
The Future of Freemasonry is up to YOU!!
CHECK OUT THE NEW WEBSITE
If you haven’t seen it yet you need to go to www.mariettamasonicbodies.com to check out our new website. From the home page click on American Union #1 to check into upcoming events, read history of our lodge and see pictures of current and past officers. It a great way to see what is going on and stay connected with the Lodge. A big Thank You goes to our Junior Deacon, Brother Ben Anderson for designing the website and keeping the content current.
AMERICAN UNION ANNUAL INSPECTION
Our annual inspection is scheduled for Friday evening, February 10, 2012. Lodge opens at 7:00 PM. Our inspection is in the Fellow Craft Degree. The officers have been busy this month practicing and we will be prepared to do the work to the best of our ability. Your attendance at the inspection would be greatly appreciated. With the many hours of work put in by the officers and many brethren traveling from other lodges to attend it would be great to have a large turnout of American Union Members. There will be refreshments served after lodge. Call a brother and come to the inspection together. We hope to see you there!

TRAVELING GAVEL
The Billy A. Calendine Memorial Traveling Gavel is presented at each inspection in the 17th Masonic District to the Lodge with the most number of Officers/Members present. American Union is off to a great start this year as we have been awarded the gavel at 4 of the first 5 meetings of the inspection season. As I said, we have a group of dedicated officers this year and I would like to Thank them for their efforts. A special Thank you goes to Worshipful Brother Clyde Huddleston who has been hauling us to the inspections in his van. In addition to the gavel being awarded at each inspection, there is an extra incentive from the 17th District Association this year. The Lodge who wins the gavel at the greatest number of inspections in the District this year will win a flat screen television and DVD player for their lodge. The officers of American Union are having a Great Time traveling to inspections – if you would like to attend any with us please call Brad Mason at 740-525-0863 or e-mail me at burkharttrucking@peoplepc.com.
MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY
Thanks go again to our Junior Deacon, Brother Ben Anderson, who has put together a new membership directory that lists all current members of American Union Lodge #1 and gives their contact information. This directory is a handy reference and every member should want one. There is no cost to obtain your very own copy. All you have to do is attend a regular stated Lodge meeting and we will be glad to give you one. Our stated meetings are the Third Monday of every month at 7PM. Come to a meeting and get your Directory.
BRIGADE OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION DINNER
On Saturday, February 18th American Union Lodge will serve a dinner for a group called the Brigade of the American Revolution. We are doing this as a fundraiser and we would welcome the help of any interested brethren. Senior Steward, Brother Chip Wilson and Junior Warden, Brother Bill Ollom has stepped up to the plate and are organizing the preparation and serving of the meal. If you are interested in helping the afternoon and/or evening of February 18th please contact Chip at 216-374-3506 or Bill at 740-374-2145. Thank you to Worshipful Brother Bill Reynolds for presenting us with this opportunity.
PAST MASTERS NIGHT, APRIL 16TH
We plan to honor our living Past Masters at our stated meeting on Monday, April 16, 2012. If you are a Past Master of American Union Lodge please mark your calendar and plan to attend. Bring any memories or stories to share with the Brethren of your time in the East. Also on that evening we will take a group photograph of all living Past Masters who attend. Hope to see you there!
REUNION AND PICTURE NIGHT, JUNE 18TH
In an effort to bring as many Brethren as possible back to the Lodge we will be hosting a Re-Union and Picture Night at our stated meeting on Monday, June 18, 2012. This will be promoted as an opportunity for any and all Brethren to come back to the lodge for an evening of fellowship. Don’t worry if you are unsure of proper protocol or don’t remember what to do at certain times in the meeting – we will not embarrass anyone – Just bring your dues card – after a short business meeting we will take a group photograph of all Brethren in attendance and then go downstairs for food and fellowship. Please plan to attend and tell other Brethren to mark the date and come to Lodge on June 18th – 7PM.
OUTDOOR MASTER MASON DEGREE AT GRAVEL PIT, JULY 7TH.
Again this year American Union Lodge will work with Harmar Lodge #390 to present the Master Mason Degree outdoors at the gravel pit at Masonic Park in Devola. This outdoor degree will be held on Saturday morning July 7, 2012. Registration begins at 6 AM and Lodge opens at 7 AM. Breakfast will follow the work. Attendance at this event has dwindled significantly in recent years. Worshipful Master Dan Hale from Harmar Lodge and I have committed to put on the degree work and make every effort to advertise the event throughout the 17th Masonic District and elsewhere. We have already been talking about it at Lodge inspections. If you would like to see this tradition continue you can help by attending the event on July 7th. Please let any and all Master Masons know of the date and time.
