Brethren:
American Union Lodge #1 stated meeting for April was designated as Past Masters Night. I was very pleased with the turn out as we had 14 Past Maters in attendance. Following a short business meeting time was given to any Past Master who wanted to make comments or tell a story from his time in the East. It was very enjoyable to hear the stories from these gentlemen. Afterward we enjoyed good food and fellowship in the dining hall. Judging from how long everyone stayed to visit I would call the evening a success.
Past Masters Night
I would like to extend my Thank You to all officers and brethren who attended any of the Lodge Inspections in the 17th Masonic District during January, February, and March. American Union was very well represented. At each Inspection a count of officers and members of each lodge in the district is taken and the lodge with the most in attendance wins the Traveling Gavel Award for the night. Likewise the lodge with the most in attendance over the entire inspection season is awarded the District Traveling Gavel Award for that year. I am proud to announce that American Union Lodge #1 won this award for 2012. Special recognition goes out to Brother Bill Ollom, Brother Doug Christopher, and Worshipful Brother Clyde Huddleston for being in attendance at all 21 inspections. Also, a special Thank You goes to Worshipful Brother Huddleston for driving us in his van to all of the inspections. Pictured below are many of the brethren who attended inspections. Thank You.

Widows Luncheon in conjunction with Harmar Lodge #390 on Saturday May 12, 2012. If you know of any widows of deceased brethren who would like to attend please let me know.
ReUnion and Picture Night will be at our stated meeting in June. Any and all brethren are invited. If you have not been to Lodge is some time please try to attend. Don’t worry if you are unsure of proper protocol or don’t remember what to do at certain times in the meeting – we will not embarrass anyone – Just bring your dues card. After a short business meeting we will take a group photograph of all Brethren in attendance and then go downstairs for food and fellowship. Monday June 18, 2012, Lodge opens at 7:00 PM.
Outdoor Master Mason degree with Harmar Lodge #390 is scheduled for Saturday July 7, 2012. Registration is at 6 AM, Lodge opens at 7 AM, breakfast follows. Please mark your calendar and try to attend.

Happy New Year! 2012 promises to be an active and productive Masonic year for American Union Lodge #1. On December 19, 2011 our officers for 2012 were installed (see article). I am honored with the opportunity to serve this next year as Worshipful Master. I am even more excited because of the great line of officers I will have the pleasure of working with. We met in December to plan our year and I am overwhelmed by the commitment and dedication displayed by this group of officers.
Our goal is to have meetings and activities that will encourage more of the membership to attend and get involved. This website will be a key way that we communicate upcoming activities to the membership. I will be sending a hardcopy Newsletter to the entire membership prior to the end of January outlining our plans for the coming year. Please check the website often for updates and inform other brethren of what is going on. Not sure who all the members of American Union Lodge are??? Thanks to our Junior Deacon – Brother Ben Anderson, we have a new membership directory that lists all current members of American Union #1. All you have to do to get one is attend any stated meeting (Third Monday of every month at 7 PM).
We have started the year on a very positive note. Friday evening, January 6th was inspection night at Lowell Lodge #436. American Union had 11 members present (7 officers and 4 members). With the most of any Lodge in attendance we won the Billy Calendine Memorial Traveling Gavel for the evening. We would like to hang on to this gavel throughout the inspection season. If you would like to attend any inspections please let any officer know and we can get you times, places, and carpool information.
Speaking of Inspections – American Union Lodge #1 inspection is Friday evening, February 10th. Lodge opens at 7PM. Our inspection is in the FC degree. The officers are busy practicing. We would like a big turn out from American Union members, so please mark your calendar and plan to attend.
There are many other special activities planned or being planned including, Past Masters Night, Reunion and Picture Night, Outside MM Degree at Gravel Pit in conjunction with Harmar #390 (July 7th), possible degree work at Campus Martius, and a trip to George Washington Masonic Memorial in Washington DC. Look for specific dates in the Newsletter coming soon.
Make it a point to attend a stated meeting, reconnect with your Brethren and your Fraternity, recruit a new member, help us to make 2012 a great year for Masonry in Marietta. Remember – “we came into the world rational and intelligent beings, so should we ever be industrious ones!”
